So, you want to get away for a few days’ holiday at a naturist centre but you don’t want to leave your four-legged friend behind? Note that not all campsites have the same policy on accepting pets. Make sure you have the right information before booking.
WHY DON’T ALL CAMPSITES ACCEPT ANIMALS?
Owners of little balls of fur (often dogs or cats) see their companion as a fully-fledged member of their family and wouldn’t dream of going on holiday without them. But not all naturist centres in France accept them, or, if they do, there are very strict rules.
One of the main reasons for refusing pets is often hygiene. Even if the animal is house-trained and their owner takes their responsibilities seriously, it can be difficult to maintain strict hygiene standards if pets are on the site. Other campsites also prioritise peace and quiet for other holiday-makers; it’s not always very pleasant to be woken up by a dog barking in the campsite.
WHERE TO FIND A NATURIST CAMPSITE THAT ACCEPTS MY DOG OR CAT
In France, most naturist villages that are members of the Fédération des Espaces Naturistes (FEN) accept animals, but under certain conditions: vaccines must be up to date, animals must be kept on a leash and they are not allowed on the beach at certain times of the day, etc. Rules vary from one campsite to another, so ask about them when you book to make sure you have the right information.
HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHETHER MY CAMPSITE WILL ACCEPT MY PET?
Before booking, it’s essential you check whether and under what conditions the campsite you are interested in accepts pets. Otherwise, you might have to cancel your booking or leave your pet behind. You can check the pet policy of each campsite on the FEN website on the "Services" page.
